Reading Comprehension and Summary Work

Bucket Lists: Reading Comprehension

1.  Describe your vision of John Goddard in 3 or 4 sentences.
2. What trend does the film The Bucket List explore?
3. What 2 things does Philippa Perry, cynically perhaps, believe about the creation of “bucket list”?

4. Do you agree with the author, Kira Cochrane, that we are living “in an age when we are all encouraged to brand ourselves, to treat our Facebook pages as a shop window for our achievement-rich lives”? Do you feel like you need to advertise a version of yourself to others? Explain.

Additional Task:

What is Kira Cochrane's opinion of bucket lists?

Write a summary of Kira Cochrane's article, drawing attention to whether she is for or against the creation of bucket lists.

 ----

In order to complete this task, you need to first colour code your article - use one colour (say green) for the advantages and then another colour (say blue) for the disadvantages.

Avoid using the same terminology as Cochrane. Use your own words.

---

Organise your summary:

a) open with a couple of lines introducing the article and the idea that having a bucket list is fashionable. Explain she looks at the pros and cons.

b) identify and list 2 advantages of bucket lists

c) identify and list 3 or 4 disadvantages of bucket lists

d) close by summarizing Cochrane's overall opinion of bucket lists.
